About PositiveLinks

The PositiveLinks platform (PL) is a complete integrated solution comprising the smartphone app (for iOS and Android), HIPAA-compliant secure messaging, patient dashboards, and administrative portals that can be linked to patient lab records.  The PositiveLinks platform has been tested and shown positive outcomes with a diverse community of members across age, ethnicity, sex, gender identity, HIV risk factors, education, and employment levels.

How it works

PositiveLinks is built on an approach we call warm technology, that uses the power and reach of communication technology and keeps the focus firmly on human connection and support. Warm technology enables PositiveLinks to provide holistic support to a private and protected intentional community, tailored to its members.  Rather than replacing more intimate forms of communication, PositiveLinks increases the connection among community members, and between members and their care providers, in a cost effective way.

Why PositiveLinks is important

Retaining people living with HIV in care is imperative to achieve individual and community health goals. Nationally, while 86% of people living with HIV are aware of their diagnosis, only 40% are engaged in care. Current statistics show that only 19-29% maintain a non-detectable viral load (VL) -- the level that optimizes health benefits for individuals and reduces HIV transmission. Unfortunately, the promise of improved health and reduced transmission remains remote for many. PositiveLinks, by increasing retention in care for people living with HIV, allows them to benefit from the tremendous advances in anti-retroviral therapy (ART) that support individual health, improve well-being, and offer the potential for a normal life span.

 

Evidence base

PositiveLinks incorporates components of two evidence-based strategies for improving chronic disease management: self-monitoring and delivery of social support. These strategies are delivered using a tailored, secure mobile app that helps PL members to develop their skills related to these strategies in the settings and at the times most convenient for them.
